View Gallery Hearing The Whisper

The word, revenant, means a person who returns. For many years that process of returning has characterized my life.

My attraction to photography has always been tied to the sense of well-being when I'm paying close attention to the world around me. The simple, wordless act of going out to the forest preserve, to the lake, or along the river — just walking and watching until seeing a pattern or having an impression come through — that's what I enjoy. Hearing the whisper, I like to think of it as. That quiet instruction which hopefully informs the finished photographs.

I've relocated often enough to feel a keen appreciation for returning to certain important places. This sense of connectedness makes me want to pick up the camera. Whether it's a landscape I'm very familiar with or my first venture into a valley. The important sensations for me are of belonging there. Of returning to a place I've never been. Whether the place is out there in the natural setting or purely in the imagination.
